Looking at the recordstoreday website I can't see any shops in Southampton.....I'm suprised two uni's and quite an affluent population and no need for a decent record shop or is it just they are not participating on Saturday?

There isn't a decent record shop in Southampton. It's HMV or nothing, sadly.

The internet has killed them all

The internet has killed them all I'm not sure the internet is to blame. Southampton is rubbish for anything that's not a huge high street chain. I blame the city council and West Quay.

Nah, with our student population an indie record store would survive regardless of the council and west quay - It's a change in the music purchasing habits of young people that's caused it

Other cities and towns have independent record shops and I'm pretty sure they have the internet too.

I quite liked the idea of getting a job in the independent record shop on Park Row in Bristol when I left Uni but I thought I probably ought to get a proper job so didn't apply.
What was it called Chris?

What was it called Chris? I remember that store. What was it called? Revolver? There was a great pastie shop just after it, before the Berkley café.

Your memory is better than mine, it was annoying me that I couldn't remember. I must have spent almost as much in there as I did on booze and substances. Our flat was decorated with band posters that they kindly donated. The Berk(e?)ley must have been the place we drank coffee with cream and competed to finish the NME crossword on Thu mornings. God were we subversive or what?

Maybe we were browsing together one day. When were you in Bristol? Me 72 - 75. Yes the Berk(e)ley was where I spent many hours doing odd things. And Christopher Bell's just next door. But I would never have remembered Park Row!
