Good reading. There are many similarities to organising Bluegrass events outside of the mainstream music business... I have posted it to my FB page

I can imagine Chris. I love your enthusiasm for the music you love. That is also similar to how us old DIY pinkers feel.

A real alternative to the bland,brainless,sheep-like corporate mainstream.

Had no idea Southampton had such a history with punk. I'm now quite annoyed at my parents for leaving the place when I was young and depriving me of the chance to see NOFX in the joiners! Good read that, always been a big believer in the DIY ethic even after i'd stopped listening to punk as much.

Southampton really was the place to play for touring bands, and the gigs were always a lot of fun, it was a real community.
I was stood next to Fat Mike when he was arguing about money, it really was pathetic. He was adamant the support bands shouldn't get paid, even though my band and another local band didnt get any money anyway, and the other band just got a little petrol money as they'd travelled from London. Shame really as NOFX were superb that night, yet it really put me off them.

We had a heated discussion with Fat Mike about the LA riots after their 2nd gig. They've always been obsessed by money. In their early days you can see it on the 10 Years of fecking Up video, right up to the Backstage Passport video they did a few years ago, where they're still accusing promoters of ripping them off.
