Just back from the match and surprisingly enjoyed it. For the first time in God knows how long the team played as though they cared - for the whole match. The first goal was as good an own goal as you are ever likely to see. On the other hand the second goal was scored in what seemed slow motion and by that cont Harry Kane. Inevitable really. The thing that cheered me up no end was that there were at least three clear cut chances for us to win the match, the last falling to young Obafemi. If he had managed to connect with that cross what a fairytale that would have been. Bertrand was captain and was always badgering the players. Good choice. The question that was uppermost in my mind was - where was Franny Benali's daughter? Looks like she was at st mary's

Best game of the season at st Mary’s so far, don’t know how it came across on the tv, I’m guessing we won’t see 73 on here for a few days It’s only a f’king draw! We still haven’t won a PL game since November and will go down if we don’t change the manager. But it was only a f*cking draw in a game that we all expected Spurs to win by anything from 2 to 5-0. Not only that, but the team played well. Let's just hope that It is a beginning. The absolutely crucial games are a week on Wednesday against Brighton and away to West Brom the following Saturday. Win those and things will look a lot different. Lose them and today will count for nothing.

Took the lead and didn’t win. Again. We sat deeper and deeper as per. We only escaped with a point as Poch is too cultured to go 442 and hoof it as all our previous opponents had done to great effect.

Football fans are a funny lot. We were walking to the ground to meet B, and several Spurs fans were leaving early (there were about ten minutes left to play) and one of them was moaning about Pochettino.
I only saw the first half, but we looked much better.

She has a new role with the club. A promotion I believe, annoying as she's been the highlight on the pitch for the past year

That’s more like it, Saints. Encouraged by that performance and result, I went online afterwards and bought three tickets for Watford (as planned) and one for the Brighton game, on the spur of the moment.
I still think Pochettino is hopeless (as Spurs were there for the taking) but at least the team dug in today. Bertrand seemed more sprightly than he has been for a while and the midfield was good. I thought Tadic did well too.

It was certainly stressful at the end and I thought here we go again when that Kane chance came about. Someone (I think it was Davis but maybe not) did a ridiculous hook across the field, deep in our half very close to the end of the match and I thought is was all starting to unravel, are we less fit than other teams. Something I did notice was that Spurs seemed physically stronger than us and Potchitino criticised his team for not being physical enough, Boufal needs to beef up.
I was listening to Talksport/Radio 5L the other week, where they were talking about underperforming teams in general with a rather candid ex-pro; how players step up against the bigger teams and then revert back to underperforming against the others. That a lot of players are not bothered about relegation because they think it will get them a move and because they think its everyone else fault, but they are worried about looking good against their peers in the bigger clubs and because playing well in these higher profile games is good for their reputation. I hope we are not in this position.
I was ready to smash the ceiling in had the young lad scored, Austin would have smashed that in and the Boufal chance. I enjoyed the game and on the basis that MP is here until the summer at least, its one more point towards safety and a good boost for confidence.

No, I don't think MP2 will come good, but I did enjoy the day. The crowd got behind the team, there were no visible, or audible protests of any kind and the team played well. It was a refreshing change. The one thing that the team DIDN'T do, was to drop deep. They kept pressing and pressing. In fact that was the one thing that surprised me. Saints played like the Saints of the MP1 era, high pressing. The only thing missing was a striker, or in fact anyone, to take advantage of the space they were making. The other similarity with the early days of the MP1 era, was that the team ran out of steam towards the end. IF Saints are going back to the high pressing game, after the pragmatism of subsequent managers (Koeman, Puell), then this is to be expected.

I was pleasantly surprised although I did think they dropped deeper. They kept up the pressing but they started pressing well within our own half, which was not the case in the first half, where we rattled Spurs. I was also pleasantly surprised at how we passed out more from the back - there was far less hoofball. McCarthy looks more confident than Fraser, which probably helps. But our defence was all over the place on more than one occasion. We need a powerful CB who can organise the others around him or her. How soon will Alfie Jones be ready? Gabby made some good runs but the through balls didn't quite make it and he did miss a couple that were typical goals for him last year (the first at Wembley). Let's hope it was more than trying to look good against Spurs and they can do that again against the teams around us. I guess we were helped that Spurs didn't lob high balls into our defence. We can see how Watford and Palace made that work.
