Nat Phillips of Liverpool, 24, centre back, available for £15m. Why are we not looking at him? Because a fee has apparently been agreed with Torino for Lyanco and he is on his way to Southampton for his medical. He sounds a bit like he might be a bit of a wildcard, like Danny Osvaldo and from what I have seen he doesn't seem to be keen on defending, but that might just be YouTube highlights. I guess he will be backup CB like Stephens. Salisu and Bednarek would seem to be the first choice pairing now.

Yes, I noticed that he has been added to the First Team squad now. He looks a big unit...

Incoming?
Ryan Christie from Celtic - free in January or now for a small fee. Have we ever had 3 Scots internationals at the same time?

Rumours this morning are that we'll sign Christie if we can sell Armstrong the elder. Would seem an odd one but I guess money driven if we can replace one with the other and make a few million then the club will be happy (if not the fans).

Sky reported Stu was "injured" yesterday but there has been talk that he may leave.
Christie is 3 years younger and a GOALSCORING MIDFIELDER and would definitely improve us. If we can get him now for £5M we must.

I would be sorry to see him go, but we are where we are financially and one thing I now trust the club with is over players. This has got to be the best window we have had for ages, coupled with last seasons incoming batch of Salisu, Walker-Peters and Diallo now looking settled and good (particularly Salisu, who looks a step up from Vestergaard), we have to be prepared to say goodbye to favourites. Just look at Ings departure, Adam Armstrong just seems to compliment Adams better and I loved a ManU fan describing him as being like "a Fecking rat after a piece of cheese"
So, if we have to say goodbye to Stuart Armstrong to get a player the management team think will improve the squad, then I am OK with that.

Stuart Armstrong will be at his peak market value right now, but do we have to always think in those terms? He's so useful to the team, I'd be really disappointed if he left. I've praised Djenepo in the match thread, but I'd always pick S Armstrong ahead of him if fit. And although we have a good track record with signings from Celtic it's always a risk to just think we can make a like-for-like swap. Can't we have them both?
Btw, who sets up a contract to expire in a January??? I've never heard of that before.

Why can't we keep Armstrong and buy Christie??
£5 million for Christie is hardly gonna ruin us.

I'd be seriously pissed off.. while I like him I can't see we're going to get the sort of big bucks we need to balance the books by selling him, but you could see once we went 3 CMs yesterday, there was almost zero creativity - yes we had a couple of chances, but that was from pressing/set piece. Given we've shed 3 senior players already, this seems a gamble too far... Have they decided we have to sell him to afford Theo? In which case I'd rather send Theo back.

Financially maybe but not sure it's all that good on the pitch. We've lost Bertrand and replaced with a solid, if unspectacular new LB, who seems to be around the level we were getting from Bertrand last season. Lost our best CB and not (yet) replaced - and if rumours are true seem to be bringing in a player of lesser ability from Serie A. Still haven't added a CM player when we only have 3 in the squad. Added Walcott which is looking to not be a good long-term move. Lost one of the best strikers in the PL and replaced with one of the best in the league below. Signed a very good player from the Chelsea academy, the only issue being his chosen position is one of the only ones we already had a very good player. And added two more kids from the Chelsea academy who will be unlikely to contribute much in the PL this season. I realise books had to be balanced and some decisions were forced on the club but I can't honestly say this squad is stronger than the very weak one which finished last season. Tino is the one real bright spot but we've lost a lot in the window too (Armstrong seems a decent enough striker but it's a bit fanciful to think he will be battling for the golden boot as Ings was.) We're a week from the end of the window and there's still a lot of work to do.

We're a week from the end of the window and there's still a lot of work to do. 1.) Bertrand was a busted flush and Perraud is already a step up from that. Thought yesterday that he looked pretty much up to speed already 2.) We replaced Vestergaard before he left. Salisu is already as good and yesterday he was mighty. Still has rough edges to knock off though and we have the fourth CB incoming any moment now. 3.) Agree with that, too many defensive options and not enough of a creative threat. 4.) He does look a bit of a vanity project at the moment. 5.) Although true, Armstrong does seem to bring out the best in Adams. They seem to be a better balanced pairing and the fact that a ManU fan was annoyed enough about him to describe him as like a "fecking rat after a piece of cheese', well, that will do for me as a character reference. 6.) I thought that Livramento looked at home in the wide right forward position that Walcott should have been occupying and the way he went past numerous defenders yesterday (including Shaw), was just damned impressive. 7.) No sign of Broja (the highly rated striker) yet, but I see that Simeu (the CB) has already been promoted to the first team squad. 8.) We were saying yesterday that all of a sudden the team looks better balanced and there are good options available on the bench. So, yes the team is already better than last year and has way more potential. Good as Danny Ings was, he was missing too often. The club has taken the proverbial one step back and two steps forward. I would feel happier if we could find another left back to give us some options other than getting another squad member to play out of position should Perraud be injured/suspended

The one thing Djenepo and S Armstrong have in common is that they try hard and I can’t fault either of them for that. Where they differ is end product. Apart from the customary 1 x worldie per season, Djenepo adds little offensively. Armstrong is a consistent performer and getting rid, whatever the price, would seriously weaken us.

I believe we are after a highly rated young left back from Everton who wants to leave for some first team football
