Good-o (please don't be Hoedt2, FFS) I'm gonna stick with calling him Lycanthrope; there's definitely something of the wolf about him Formerly of this Parish's take:

It makes 'some' sense I guess. Both FF's and Colander's contracts expire in the Summer, FF is on far higher wages. Ralph has already said a new keeper will be brought in next Summer so it's a question of which of the other 2 will be kept as backup. Obvs as it's SFC the answer is which is the cheaper one. Colander has more experience of being a backup up as we seem to be the only club stupid enough during his journeyman career to make him a no 1!!

Anything could happen in the next year, player reputations rise and fall quickly. We'd probably have happily taken £8m or so for Vestergaard 12 months ago, now we've got nearly double that and he's usually described as being our best CB. The same could happen with either of the 2 keepers, but it'll be hard to go back on our word when we've basically told them both that we'll look for someone better. To be clear, I don't mind us having this as the plan, it's just telling the whole world about it that is weird.

It makes absolute sense in the narrative where the club are shedding all their highest wage earners. From a stopping goals gushing into the net like it's a sandcastle in a tsunami, not so much. I imagine they're going to keep McColander as no1 and sign the Newport keeper as no2, just to ensure we break the 0-9 glass floor

I'm not sure if it's an Austro-Germanic thing but he does seems to be very upfront about things that would be best kept in-house. The decline in Obafemi's career here can pretty much be traced to when Ralph said he needed to 'improve his professionalism' during a fan's forum and this with the gks can't motivate either much when the boss is saying one of you won't have a job next season and the other of you will be demoted.

I'm not sure that's the entire sense of it; it seems to be (horrifyingly) that McCarthy is no1 for the foreseeable, and they'll try to get another young Gunn type to compete and hopefully overtake him.

'If' we survive then our financial situation will be increasingly better as we are ever further removed from the Les Reed error so I would hope we would have enough cash to splash on a bona fide number one keeper and won't be reduced to seeing what we can smuggle out of the Chelsea creche. The frightening thing is thinking we have to survive with McCol in goal all season....

In spite of him signing a new three year contract, it doesn't mean we have to survive on him alone, FF will still be here. We will just have to see if he improves with a run in the side, rather than having the sword of Damocles hanging over him all the time

Of course it isn't at all certain that he will be able to not play so poorly that Ralph will have to turn to FF at some point.....

It seems from Ralph's utterings this week that there is a small chance that there might be a midfielder incoming before Tuesday's deadline. If that comes to pass then it will be the busiest and hopefully, the most productive transfer window for many a year

Pleased to see that nothing came of the Stuart Armstrong rumours. I think he'll have to play in CM sometimes which will give us that extra midfield option that does appear missing. Maybe Ralph would have done that last season as well, but we didn't have anyone else to play as an attacking midfielder whereas now it's a bit easier to switch players round without weakening the place they vacate.
