Armstrong from Blackburn - incoming??? Watford have had a £15m bid for Armstrong knocked back. Seems Blackburn want £25M which is probably why we have lost interest. After all, Shane Long scored in our draw with Fulham yesterday. In other news, young Callum Slattery is going to Motherwell. Permanent too, not a loan. As I said at the height of Hasslehuttlmania earlier in his tenure when all was looking rosy (in another scintillating episode of #73givesyoutomorrowsnewstoday) as good a coach as Ralph is his treatment of young players leaves a lot to be desired. Be it, Vokins, Valery, Slattery or Weird Al his patience with young players seems to be pretty much non-existent and his treatment of Obafemi where he publicly slated a teenager for being 'unprofessional' was terrible. It's all very well cutting back the wage bill but since we have no money these young players are the only options we have for squad players. Without them we are going to be relying on playing players out of position in event of injury which us makes us weaker in double the amount of positions as JWP/Armstrong should be playing where they are best.

Interesting that the Lemina to Nice transfer has been acknowledged by both the player and Nice but not a thing on our o/s.

Does that mean we've just got Elywotsit left of the high-cost donkeys from the Les Reed error? I can't see him sticking around much longer either. We're well stocked in the wide attacking players who don't score much position with Djenepo, Redmond, Theo + the emerging Tella and Big Willy Smallbone.

Looks like it.. ..although he may be the exception now he's a bit more up to speed with the British game. He was the most rated of the lot when we bought him and seems to have scored a fair bit for Celtic. I'd say 50:50 we may see him in the coming season if indeed he can be the odd one out in the "wide attacking players who don't score much position" by actually scoring more than once a season.

Possibly but I can't see it. Scoring goals for Celtic in the SPL isn't exactly the most difficult sporting task. He'd have to have an amazing pre-season but since we have spent big wages on Theo and have the far cheaper wage-level Tella coming to the party I can't think we can afford Ely as well. He's bound to be on a standard Reed contract of £70-80k per week so I think we would be looking to ship him out either on loan or perm, Fullback is still worrying thing. With Vokins on loan and Valery largely training with the kids we have a squad with only 2 fit full backs which is dicing with death. Not quite sure what the solution is as we can't afford replacements and Ralph blatantly doesn't rate the kids. I guess the only thing we can do is to try and buy an old swiss-army knife jack of all trades player in the Jermaine Wright/Paul Telfer mold who can just about cover both FB positions and CM as well so at least we won't have to waste one of our better players like JWP, Armstrong or Bednarek playing there.

To save a click, Olly Lancashire is joining as a player (now age 32) to act as mentor for the U23s. It seems a sensible idea to me and appears to be something that is catching on in several clubs. Certainly there's a problem with how our backup teams are performing and I saw something a while back that the club recognise that something has to change. Having an experienced player dedicated to helping the young guys is a step in the right direction. He was a bit disaster prone on the pitch for Saints as I recall, but it was a difficult time for all the young players back then and he's done well to have a decent lower league career.

You would hope he's be bought in as an off-field mentor as, even in hard times, he was the worst CB we had during the dark days (he even made Alan Bennett look like Bobby Moore) We need to do something to improve the Academy/B Teams. In our penniless state these teams need to be where our squad players come from and at the moment they just aren't.

Seems Celtic are trying to sign Joe Hart from Spurs which would stop Fraser going back there. Suits me if he stays.
Celtic lost to Midtjylland in their Euro qualifier last night which makes them a less attractive hiding place for our fringe players.

I would love us to play Celtic in a warm up game, just to see the difference (if any) in standard.
