Read an interesting article in the paper yesterday about the drunkenness, yobbish behaviour and incompetence witnessed at Wembley during the past week.
It will have come as no surprise to citizens of foreign cities unfortunate to have hosted England matches during recent decades to hear of day long drinking, unruly behaviour, intimidation of anyone not English and fights with police. Perhaps they might have expected the trash that follow England would draw the line at (as my Granddad used to say) shitting in their own nest - but no. London experienced what all those places have endured before so, in that respect "Football really DID come home.
England has long been regarded as the Millwall of the International game and it is clear to see why our country has never been popular wherever our fans have been. The whole Brexit disaster has empowered the xenophobic loons who now feel they have government backing for their racism and criminality. All of this was so predictable.
Our FA and authorities are not blameless either. During a pandemic with part empty stadia you need more stewarding and policing, not less. The way our yobs were able to move around the stadium bullying and abusing Danish supporters last week shows slipshod planning for the matches. Then to allow ticket-less yobs within miles of Wembley was insane. Thousands of pissed up Nazis vs a handful of police and stewards (many of whom were injured trying to do their jobs on Sunday) was an uneven contest.
In normal times the policing and stewarding strategy was unwise. With Covid infection rates rocketing it was criminal. There should have been a perimeter around the stadium and anyone without a ticket AND proof of 2 Covid jabs should have been sent packing.
My football team makes me proud. My country makes me look just like Rashford did when his penalty hit the post.

You firstly quote decades of misbehaviour yet are keen to pin the blame on Brexit, which way do you want it?

There have always been idiots who have followed the national team and caused trouble since the 70s/80s. The people organising the final royally f'ked up by not putting a barrier around the stadium by which you could only enter with a ticket. This is done for NFL games at Wembley, where the crowds are much more docile, so madness that this wasn't done for a major final.
As the stadium was not going to be full for the final (unique to this tournament) there was the opportunity for any fans who managed to gain entry that they would be able to find an empty seat which is what happened.
Very amusing (but predictable) that somehow the idiotic behaviour of some fans can be linked to Brexit. But I guess that's what you get when there is unbridled love of a trading bloc where you cannot see past this and everything that happens in the world, both good and and bad, has to framed in terms of Brexit.

I didn't vote for Brexit and agree that economically it was always going to be a bad thing - but to continually obsess over our membership of the EU is madness. It's over. We're out and will never be back in, at least in any of our lifetimes. So let's just get on with life shall we? As I said many times to by far the majority of the population being in or out of the EU will make hardly any tangible difference. I cannot think of one thing that has changed for me. It's laughable that EU obsessives can't see past this. I see them on twitter, even now, they spend day after day endlessly tweeting about Brexit. What is the point? And if something bad happens? An empty supermarket shelf? Brexit!! English football yobs behaving to type? Brexit!!! Toe stubbed on door? Brexit!!!!!! Anyway, this thread was designed to start a ruck and it got one. channonite lock??

Hadn't seen those pictures. Confirms everything I said. I'm not taking any shit from the "Little Englanders" on here. If they are too stupid to see that their reckless Brexit and a government (not mine) that refers to Asylum Seekers as cockroaches only empowers antisocial and racist thuggery then they should seek both educational and medical help.

I'm a simple boy. Long in the arm & thick in the 'ead. I'm certainly not intellectual.
-I voted to remain in Europe. -I was a teenager in the 70's when Alf Garnett & Love thy neighbour were on mainstream tv. -The British Society has, in past decades, been lauded for it's self deprecating humour in many parts of the Western World. -Society in Britain is changing, -It needs to start with Education. -The Giant Tech companies can eradicate hate easily. Consumerism is their main priority not "Freedom of Speech". -I am not political as Westminster, whichever party, are PR soundbites today. -We are where we are. We just have to accept that. -I do not care whether you are Black, White, Cross gender, Brown, Gay, Bi, Anti Brexit ETC. -The journey of change is going to be long as pointed out by St Paddy. -I'm fully prepared to remain on that journey and embrace Change. Which, incidentally has reached over a Million Signatures. -That for me is a good start. Have a wonderful evening.

Evening. An entertaining thread, which I have no intention of locking. It demonstrates in a microcosm how split this country still is. Brexit is over, a cause lost - worse luck, but the underlying issues remain. IMHO the problem was and still is populist politics. It's the reason that organisations are in a flat spin about what to do next week, all because some politicians simply don't want to make an unpopular decision. Simply an abdication of responsibility. Pathetic.
