I love him and would want him back but I don't know that his position is a priority with Fernandez, Lesley, Smallbone, Aribo in the squad I'd like it, but it doesn't make sense.. we desperately need GK,AM,ST so any money spent elsewhere now is wasted.

Jesus. Goalkeeper, now.
We could have had Ramsdale done weeks ago. This one has to be about survival, has to be about experience. A keeper that makes that clutch save like Pope did to Armstrong on Saturday. A three point save. SR are asleep at the wheel on this one.

I can understand that Arsenal are trying to find a club to sell him too. Especially in a PSR era. Only the GK market is a difficult one. Clubs only need 2 keepers and by everyone has their first choice(except Saints). Once Arsenal realize that they cannot sell him they will consider loaning him to

What makes you think we could have had Ramsdale done weeks ago? I would think he is waiting until near the end of the window to get the best possible deal and club available, and until yesterday Arsenal apparently wanted a permanent move for him.

Not a chance we could have wrapped this up weeks ago, he must be on twice the salary that any of our current players are on, which would be a big upset to the current structure - Arsenal are holding out for a perm deal, he’s got to be worth £25m at least - so, apart from the wages and the fee, there’s absolutely nothing else stopping us!

Not to mention that his appetite for joining a club billed as relegation fodder must be minimal and there are other interested parties higher up the food chain. Apart from all of that it's a no brainer!!!

This all reminds me of my favourite REM lyric (Daysleeper - the whole song really, but in particular "its furious balancing").
We've been doing a tranfer window looking for quantity of signings and quality of signings, from a big existing FFP/PSR disadvantage. Matching the fact that we need several first team players and several depth options with the dynamics of FFP (for us and for selling clubs) explains everything. If you take Ramsdale, its why we cant afford a permanent transfer offer, and its why they wont countenance a loan until the window is winding down. Its also just that little bit more complicated as you're only allowed 4 loans, 2 max from the PL (not from the sake club) and its hard as hell to get a loan signing that a team will allow to go who is good enough to play, so we cant leverage loans as well as we did last year.
We will probably have a quite frantic final week and a bit of the window, balancing. Gk and ST are the worst two positions to go to the wire looking for, with short supply. Its easily possible we could go through 10 GK links and then sign someone out of the blue on deadline day.
We will sign a GK. Theres a fairly good chance they will be an upgrade on McCarthy, but unless we're willing/able to go permanent or have enough cash through sales out, it might be slim pickings and a turn of the deadline day roulette wheel of who becomes available at the last minute.
The next 10 days are probably going to be far more unpleasant than the window so far - especially if KWP or Bednarek is bid for - so if anyone's been feeling the rage building so far, you're honestly best taking a break off grid and seeing the lay of the land on 1 September.
I think regardless of relegation or promotion, but in terms of future sales and impact on the pitch, we'll find we've had a stonking window. The only criticism I can level is that now we have filled the obvious gaps, every penny should be aimed at a permanent signing to take Bazunu's place, as his performances and stats cannot justify such blind faith. Its quite a big quibble, but I have to acknowledge they're not done yet and literally everyone we have signed at the prices we have signed has had me shocked - the hit rate will exceed any transfer window i can remember us doing for many a moon.
Anyway.. we will sign a GK. No point panicking over it.

I agree completely with your last point. My point was a rant, nothing more. We have been active but in replacing players we already had we’ve added just 2x (Saga and BBD) who for me justify a first team place. We’ve so much deadwood.
I didn’t make this mess, nor did Russell Martin, it’s SR and partly Nathan Jones and the free wheeling of that 22 transfer window. Repent at your leisure and all that.
We just look very capable of doing it all again

Still seen nothing this window to give any evidence to disprove my theory that SR have already raised the white flag on this season and are gratefully taking the cash and thinking of next season in the Champ.
Saw something on TSW which made me laugh, no really I did. Ross Stewart has been on the SMS pitch for less minutes than Rod Stewart.

I like the look of our squad and the additions.. Lets see, but looks like we are giving it a sensible go and building a better squad.

I saw him on the bench last weekend and had completely forgotten he existed.
