Morning and a very happy birthday to my all-time favourite novelist, Mr Charles Dickens. Pickwick Papers was one of the funniest books I ever read. Nicholas Nickleby, Our Mutual Friend and Bleak House among the most gripping and best written stuff ever. (You have to wade through the first hundred pages or so of Bleak House, but then it will just carry to the end in a few hours.)
Still very cold and white out there.

I always struggled with Dickens for some reason, I keep meaning to go back and have another go, but never quite get round to it.
Looking forward to tonight's game, although I'm not in my usual seat, I will be more central in the Kingsland. I hope there are a few more informed people around me rather than knucklehead laddish types who think that if Saints aren't playing the way pissed up Sunday morning teams play them it's all negative and rubbish.
This morning is a Siouxsie & The Banshees morning.

Morning Peeps
Elgar Cello concerto for me - Du Pre, Barbirolli and the LSO. Top notch!
This new waste regime works if you follow the rules - fortnight's rubbish = 1 black bag. Some w@nkers seem to have put out 15 black bags - I do hope they are brought to book.
Expensive week so far. Paid for new sofas, summer holiday and a new tyre for the Focus yesterday. Think I'll keep a low profile today.
Giving tonight a miss. I'm allowed as I'm bringing Drew to Burnley on Saturday. Can't decide what may happen tonight and whether I'll be upset if we get knocked out. Given that life normally transpires to make things complicated for me I anticipate a win tonight so that the Derby game (for which I also have a pair of tickets) can be rearranged for when we're in Co Durham next month.....
But anyway, COYR!

morning all, what did I miss yesterday?
I have to say I hope we win tonight but I also hope nobody puts too much effort into it, Saturday and the following Tuesday are far more important.
Hopefully Chappy and Tchung (that sounds good!) will cut the mustard and we will have some difficult decisions to make on Saturday?
At least it's a bit warmer now, slightly soggy, not particularly pleasant looking but not bloody freezing, till tomorrow...
I think I'm getting the family cold but in a half-hearted way, hopefully it will disappear shortly and normal service will be resumed?
I don't like Dickens, I don't really like any Victorian literature, but I think we've had this discussion before haven't we? I'm currently reading Neil Gaiman... he approaches brilliance on occasion although he also approaches banality as well, I'm glad the former outweighs the latter though by quite a lot

G'day snowbunnies
Sussex(E) still has a fair bit of the white stuff - so does Normandy which is why i am still here, not there. But Bright sunshine at the mo so am expecting some significant thawing.
If you bought a new tyre it's not surprising that you are keeping a low profile Spot! Unless somebody steals it.
Dickens is a great writer - whether reading it yourself or having him read to you. He's as good as your imagination allows.
Have a good day, y'all

Morning all. Too much going on - why does everything have to be five minutes ago. I've got to get self to Tilehurst later. It is only the other side of Reading but I have never been there in my life. And I'm on stand-by in case Yateley needs to get Mrs Y from hospital after her incident with the Vick's.

Good Morning
I am hoping for a better day than yesterday. For some reason the whole day was a struggle.
Good chance for the fringe players again tonight, but I am really looking forward to Saturday. A chance to compare Billy Sharp with JRod.
Always liked Dickens. I saw someone arguing that kids these days are not taught how to read, other than in short bursts. They therefore don't have the attention spans necessary for something as complex as Dickens. How would they hope to cope with some of the Russian authors. I remember reading War & Peace and keeping a note of the various characters, as they kept changing names.
Right, things to do.

But anyway, COYR! Haha, tyre, low profile... nice one Centurion. & don't be silly, of course the rubbishers won't be punished; all this recycling malarky is a load of crap brought in as a sop to the EU, most of it goes in landfill anyway as we don't have the capacity to recycle it. Anyways, morning all; still in quite a lot of pain today, and had a crap night's sleep, so not feeling up for much. I'm wondering whether to cancel going to the game tonight, but I can't make the next 2 so it'd be a bit galling. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I could take the train down (I'm a bit worried about falling asleep on the drive back, as I'm nearly dozing off now), but I can't see any sensible options to get to Soton and back... god public transport in this country is a farce. On the other hand, I am looking forward to having a proper look at Lee (but not Billy, unfortunately.)... hopefully he'll reward a bit of Nige's faith tonight and put some pressure on the team selection for Sat. I quite like Dickens, can't say I've read any in years, though. Better get on, need more coffee though.

Something for Mrs Y to use when handling Vick in future It was the actual helmet used by the late Ronnie Peterson when he was in F3 in 1968-9. Vicks of Sweden sponsored him for several years. Yours for a reasonable €13,000 ....

Have to say I like Victorian literature - poems and prose. Dickens, Hardy and their like commentated on massive social change and their works bring the dull historical facts to life. Some of the finest English poetry was written as ancient hamlets were subsumed into the burgeoning industrial towns. It tears at the heartstrings f'sure.
Dark Satanic Mills me up!
PS. Still with Elgar - I'm currently being Enigma-ed by JEG and the Vienna Phil.
