I have been reliably informed that we:
Are looking at Adrian Marriapa who is apparently skills on toast....
Should be looking at Tomasz Kuszczak....who apart from throwing one in against us has been terrific since...
Just thought I'd throw those in....

Hard to judge on onme game but I thought Kuszczak was rubbish when we played Watford

That Schmeichel at Leicester seems like a decent keeper. He cost us 3 points up there at least.

You can't buy a Bart replacement though, you have to buy as good if not better than your top players (across the squad) so we need to challenge Kelv's position and he needs to know that if he doesn't perform there is someone as good as him itching to take his place Schmeichel, Al Habsi, Robinson, Given, Bogdan - One of these please

Schmeichel's probably good but- as Arsenal found in their pursuit of that little whore Chamberlain- it's hard to buy players from clubs who have money and you usually end up paying over the odds. I like Andy King at Leicester as well but he wouldn't come cheap.

not sure about Mariappa, I thought we were supposed to be buying better than we had?
Schmeichel would be okay although he is not anything like as infallible as his old man he is a very good shot stopper, bit like Kelvin really, is he any better apart from being younger?
Benny's list is pretty good but I think Given is too old and Robinson a little overrated and a bit old to establish himself as our number one goalkeeper for X years to come.
Jarvis and possibly Kightly from Wolves also Fletcher and Hennessey from there as well, Scott Dann & Pedersen from Blackburn, both Stuart Holden & Bogdan from Bolton if they go down and and if he is fit again Jacob Butterfield from Barnsley
That's all I can think of for the moment, should keep us going

I'd like an old head to marshall all that potential.

I'd like an old head to marshall all that potential. I'm flattered but hardly up to the rigours of a season in the Prem.

I'd like an old head to marshall all that potential. So would I but our transfer policy over the past couple of years hasn't suggested this is a route we'd go down. Maybe that will change in the premier league. Someone in the middle of it all that can captain the side and give them the benefit of experience - I can't think of many options though Danny Murphy Phil Neville Martin Petrov Rory Delap!

It's a very tricky position to fill, this leadership role. A bit like fitting in a frontman in a band. They need unswerving belief, ego ....call it what you will.... to do the job but that can cause friction among other members of the team. So we need an intelligent one of those, preferably experienced at the highest level who also has diplomacy and sensitivity in, what I believe these days is called, his 'skill set'.
There are such people around and we desperately need one

I disagree and I'll throw a bigger hand grenade into the pond with the defence of my case.
The only reason we are perceived as needing one is because Hammond was given that role too often. Think back to the games when Morgan didn't start and try and recall how many times Kelvin or the CBs gave him a short ball or the FBs passed the ball inside to him. It was blindingly obvious that they had little faith in his ball playing ability or leadership qualities. Now think back to when Morgan played in there (most often with Cork) and think about who took control of the game............
Forget relegation fodder and old-timers and start looking at quality players that are desperate to be part of a club that is going forward with 32k fans behind it and an ability to demonstrate sustainability in the future.

To say that we "desperately" need a leader suggests that we don't currently have any. How disrespectful to players like Schneiderlin, Fonte, Cork and Hooiveld. You don't get promoted without having leaders all over the pitch. Norwich and Swansea have managed well enough without having to bring in any old lags. By the way if we buy a 'keeper I think he should be someone who will come off his line and dominate his area. Rob Green did this brilliantly at Upton Park when we had West Ham under the pump. I know naff all about goalkeeping really but we're going to be put under more pressure this season than we've been used to in the last three seasons. Having a goalie who can relieve that pressure by coming and claiming crosses could be massive.

Couldn't agree more with losters and shirls. Nige has built a team with leaders throughout, and I'm sure he will continue to do so as the team evolves. If he does decide we do need another leader in the team, then a prerequisite for that role should not be that the player is old.

I seem to remember Dave Jones bringing in the likes of Hughes, Ripley and Howells- grizzled old pros looking for one last pay day. Remind me how that worked out for us?
