It may be seen as old fashioned to want our club to be liked. We discussed at length about the affect of our Chairmans brittle relationships with other clubs. Some of you scoffed, and said it matters not one jot, as long as we are winning they can think and do what they want. We are already reaping the rewards of an unfriendly attitude in the loan market. Now this week sees the potential of one club deliberately selecting a weaker side against a rival because of their hate for us. And of course the childish ticketing revenge of Brentford FC this week. Had we not been perceived as an aggressive force, would that be happening?
It shows that getting on with others in this trade is important and if not, it can have an adverse affect on us all. I am fully aware that Cortese was not at the club when the Brentford incident occurred, and it was Brentford who cocked up the ticket allocation in 2005. Some say we are rapidly becoming the new Leeds. Having both Lowe and Cortese as chairman in such a short time has completely wrecked decades of what was a good reputation of a friendly family club. Another reason Cortese should work on his PR!
I posted that on the ugly, and for some reason they thought it couldn't be discussed on here, although we all still read the ugly and most of us are still dual members and posters.

All possibly true. However- if we go up this season, it will be due in no small part to Cortese. Inarguable FACT.

Actually I don't care. You don't win things by being liked. Not in the same class as Keegan I admit, but pretty good for division 3, we got Fonte, Davis, Connolly to step down, made sure Lalana stayed and Lambert too. For now, I'll take that and promotion tomorrow or Monday!

I certainly have never met any other footy fans who think we're the new Leeds FFS!

Brentford fecked their own ticket arrangements in the cup game and their actions now refect their own petty mindset rather than that of our club. Brighton seem to have had a chip on their shoulders since 1978 when we drew at home to Spurs and so denied them promotion. Lowe or Cortese weren't around in 78 and yet we still apparently acted like coonts to Brighton. Maybe some people are rewriting history to suit their own petty agendas. I think it's funny that the same people who accuse our fans of being happy clappers get upset when the people running the club are hard faced. I personally don't give a flying feck as long as we are promoted and the team do well.

While what Pat says to some extent may have an element of truth, it is also true that football clubs are run by people who haven't the faintest idea what a balance sheet is. That is proven by the sheer number of clubs that are in desperate trouble.
Taking said Brentford as an example, any club that passes up an opportunity to sell more tickets for a game when they get such miserable gates needs to get a new board in to run the club a bit more intelligently.
As for Brighton, I will wait and see what happens there before I comment on that situation.
In general football clubs need an injection of realism and to wake up from their cozy world of self congratulating hypocrisy.

TBF we shouldn't be counting on Brighton to beat the Udders to go up anyway.

Football Chairmen across the leagues seem to fall out with their counterparts on a regular basis...they are a special breed and it appears having some sort of personality defect is one of the best ways to get the job.
Pat, you have valid points but seem very happy to ignore the part that other clubs have had to play in the spats. You seem happy to acknowledge Coretese and SFC as being the sole problem in every case...but there are two sides to every story and the other teams are just as culpable in a lot of those incidents.
That is where the argument falls down...too many people willing to take the word of our opposition at the expense of any fair hearing. It's automatically our club's fault, regardless of the FACTS...!
That twunty Bournemouth chairman is a great example...just look and listen to him, you'd take HIS word at face value?! The scrunt had to back pedal when the truth started coming out.
Don't believe the hype.

TBF we shouldn't be counting on Brighton to beat the Udders to go up anyway. Well Udders are doing their best to suck up to Brighton with their manager fawning over them in his pre match comments and they are even giving them the guard of honour that they so desperately crave. Desperate. Poyet has made such a big deal of us not rolling over before them he is really coming across as a right billy big bollocks.
