Looking again at this brilliant pic, it occurs to me that there might be more to my aversion to stripes than the aesthetic. For the first nine years of my life, we didn't play in standard stripes. Throughout my formative years, it was weird kits made by Patrick or Hummel. Maybe that's it. Stripes are as unfamiliar and discomfiting to me as the all red kit was to others.

Likewise. I'd supported saints for 10 years before a stripe came into play. This supports my theory that the most vocal 'bring back the stripes' social media warriors were youngsters who knew very little of Saints' actual history.

My first game in 1966. It was stripes all the way for me. And I still like those socks with the single white hoop.

I'm older than you and my early memories are striped, you kids know nothing of our history.

My aversion to stripes has nothing to do with history.
They just look shite!

It's stripes for me too, and I also prefer the red sock with the single hoop. I remember having the blue Rank Xerox kit, and then didn't buy another shirt until 1997. I haven't bough one since.

This is all well and good but we all know Graziano should be playing in something black and skintight with a plunging neckline

What was the deal with the '91-'93 away kit? That was the Admiral flecky kit, it was disgusting. Most of the 90's was a kit wash out, even when the kit was ok it was way too baggy.

Weren't they flames? Ironically I destroyed Forbes' yellow and blue versions of that kit by accidentally setting fire to them (and the door, and the floorboards, and the walls). I got chucked out the house for 2 days by my parents for that and ordered never to smoke in the house again.

Yes they were flames and I agree with your desire to torch it.

They just look shite! I agree. Hoops are acceptable. Pinstripes are acceptable. But full blown stripes? No. Jeremy Clarkson wears striped shirts, and he's a c*nt.

I grew up with stripes and had the blue flame shirt.
Bite me.

I am kit neutral provided it's not blue. If we can progress with the product on the field I have nothing against kit changes.

I want a f*cking yellow away kit. It's a practical concern. Playing in another colour robs us of our stirring "YEEEEEELLOWS" roar.
