I thought Saints played well for the most part but lost control of the game after the second was disallowed and never looked like they were going to go for another. They got what they deserved and Hughes has to go before it’s too late to recover the situation. I sometimes wonder whether people at Southampton are so far removed from reality that they don’t see it. You only need to be a casual observer of football to realise that Mark Hughes is never going to turn this round. There’s nothing in his track record to suggest he will, and very few examples in football as a whole. People always quote the Ferguson example but they can never fecking think of any others. Because there aren’t any. Let’s face it, we’re not going to get rid of Hughes now because Kruger seems to have already “expended all his energy” on the decision to sack slash throw Reed under the bus, so the opportunity to take a good two week search for a new manager, with Jaidi working with the players, is lost. We’ll go away to Fulham, probably scrape a ‘creditable’ draw which will see us slip quietly into the bottom three. Yet still, an away draw will be sufficient for him to hang on for yet another week. We’re making the biggest decision for the benefit of our future based on the most short term of factors; poor referee decisions, the odd scraped point here and there. It was the same last year, same again now. Someone with some balls needs to take control and realise that Hughes just isn’t going to work, and the Reed decision is not going to get us winning games again in the short term.
