I watch every England and most Scotand games on TV - apart from when I actually go to Wembley to watch England games. I last went in June for the 2-2 draw with Switzerland. The main reason I struggle to find any love for the England football team is because of the personal element to it. I want England to do well but I cannot bring myself to follow and support them because of frankly vile human beings that have been the mainstay of the team in recent years. I would find it too hypocritical to support people like Rio Ferdinand, John Terry and Ashley Cole after some of the things that they have done in their private lives. They, and the England team, encapsulate everything that has gone wrong with the sport that i used to love. The only remaining link I have to that sport is Saints. I never watch any other football apart from other matches on the football league show, and in recent years i have read newspaper articles about certain young footballers being called up to the England squad who I have never even heard of. Seconded! On top of that last world cup and the poor displays were the final nail in the coffin (when I saw th Czech game at wembley I should ahve been prewarned... a game which incidently is the only game I have ever left early!). I also can't believe the press are still refering to them as the 'gold generation' surely they should have moved on to fools gold by now. However I will watch the Scotland game

I still support England, go to their games when I can, and am desperate for them to win something. I don't like Terry or Cole, but then there have been Saints players I haven't liked. I am similar to Spot in that I will watch any football, any time and my eldest is much the same. I do enjoy watching cricket, but if England were to lose say, a World Cup Semi FInal, I would be over it next day. I am still not over losing the 1990 World Cup Semi in Turin.
As for rugby, I tried to watch some of the game against Scotland last week and I didn't have a clue what was going on. And at times, neither did the commentators. I find the game dull and do get annoyed by the holier than thou attitude rugby has. It seems that when the sport gets a bit of publicity such as now, that some of the players aren't quite the demi saints they are made out to be.

Jehram, if you really believe that the rugby offers the chance to see England players with pride in their shirts then you haven't seen much of this WC! Yet another chance to see over-rated, past-it players selected by a manager clinging onto a vestige of past success because he hasn't got the faith in the younger players.
Don't get me started on the England football team.

Don't get me started on the England football team. Well everything's relative, I just meant they try a helluvalot harder than the football pansies... ..and I agree he needs to play the younger players. I am under no illusion that we will not lose the moment we play a decent team. Bizarrely it appears we've been lucky with the draw so if we're lucky we might get a couple more games before that happens.

TBF Lostboy, Johnson has brought through some new and younger players. However, he has clearly turned out to be the great leader as coach that he was when leader as player. I guess he is falling back on his old cronies hoping they will get them out of this mess as he doesn't have the connection with the younger ones and is not sure about them. Sad. Hopefully he will be history after his world cup and we can turn towards the 6 nations for some much needed new blood.

I watch every England and most Scotand games on TV - apart from when I actually go to Wembley to watch England games. I last went in June for the 2-2 draw with Switzerland. It is football FFS. You either like football or you don't. The idea of liking some football and not all of it is derranged. Half you mongs will be watching the Rugby tomorrow. Disgraceful! If the coonts were playing in my back garden I'd pull the curtains FFS! The prospect of watching MK Dons on Monday night is much more exciting. Sorry Spot, but why is it deranged?! By your rationale, you would get as much enjoyment out of watching, I don't know, Young Boys as you would from watching Saints. And why is it disgraceful to watch and support the Englad rugby team? I, like many, love many sports and rugby is one of those. The main reason I struggle to find any love for the England football team is because of the personal element to it. I want England to do well but I cannot bring myself to follow and support them because of frankly vile human beings that have been the mainstay of the team in recent years. If anyone asks me what my favourite sport is, my first reaction is either cricket or golf. Football never comes into it. Before i turned 20, it would have been football every time. From where you live you could throw dog poo into Cashley's garden or, at least, hit a few golf balls and break his windows - assuming that he's there and not his canny lass (is she still his ex?)

I can just imagine you turning up at his door with a bag full of faeces saying "could you just let me in for a moment please?" Things could get brutal in Surrey

Sorry to admit but I will definitely be watching the Rugby tomorrow morning. I've loved Rugby since school (one of the few things I enjoyed at School). I came to football much later & whilst league football if now much more important to me than Rugby I still love Rugby (& it’s got a lot better since it went professional). As for football internationals I do enjoy the "stirring of national pride" aspect but this is exactly the same as Rugby internationals. Whilst I will make a point of watching Rugby Internationals & I am no longer bothered about football internationals. With the football internationals now not freely avaible on terrestrial TV, & not having Sky, I cannot be bothered having to search out somewhere to watch the game only to find, time after time after time, the game then fails to deliver. I will stick with my mix of Saints games, the odd London Irish game & a few Rugby internationals.

I love the idea of Jehram preferring to watch the MKDons. I know he was trying to be funny, but even mentioning Team Franchise half seriously, kind of undermines the credibility of the whole argument ... Apart from the football, this promises to be a good weekend sportwise. A host of tense rugby matches, the Japanese GP and the Rugby League Grand Final at Old Trafford.

My favourite analogy is that American Football is like chess. Only with people.
