I love the idea of Jehram preferring to watch the MKDons. I know he was trying to be funny, but even mentioning Team Franchise half seriously, kind of undermines the credibility of the whole argument ... Apart from the football, this promises to be a good weekend sportwise. A host of tense rugby matches, the Japanese GP and the Rugby League Grand Final at Old Trafford. You might love that, but I don't* *suspects Channers might've not read the thread as thoroughly as he thinks he has. JPGP, eh? had forgotten about that...

MLT was better than Gazza and successive England managers' Branflake-like treatment of MLT in the early-mid 90s led me to see the England set-up as a clique. Taylor, Hoddle and Venables couldn't see that the English equivalent of Xavi was 15 years ahead of his time and staring them in the face because they were too busy shoe horning much inferior players like Palmer, Batty and Redknapp into the side. While England continues to be run on those lines there's no hope. The best players should be selected regardless of which team they play for.
I find Scotland matches dull but I'll watch Wales to see how Bale's getting along.
There are Saints players I've disliked but not to the same extent as scumbags like
I'll still ask Mrs Y for permission to watch the game tonight but I probably won't enjoy it.

Is it any wonder why England play with such fear at home when the pervading attitude is such.
England are a second rate international team, due to the talent pool at the top being so totally small, totally due to the Premier Leagues clubs obsession with foreign players. We only have one player who could be considered a top international player (I will avoid the much overused term 'world class').
I hear this morning that Capello is considering calling Oxo up, and that he 'came of age' last night in scoring a hatrick (including two tap is) against Romsey Town (sorry Iceland U21's, about the same level as Romsey Town). What a terrible indictment on the state of are game that there isn't hoards of players blocking his path....
There is an arguement that Capello has done a decent job (overpaid, I grant you) he looks like qualifiying easily, but we will get shafted when we get to the finals because are players are simply not good enough...
PS....Gazza was a better player than Le Tiss..(grab shield and take cover)

Most football managers positions are precarious (only as good as your last game etc.)
So most managers feel insecure most of the time. Ergo they become paranoid and control freaks. This leads to only feeling happy with programmable robots on the pitch who will only do what the manager tells them to and so they won't gamble on the unpredictable.
It takes a very mature, secure and independent mind to cope with, and use, the maverick, genuinely skilled and naturally spontaneous talents.

Which is a particularly amusing observation when placed alongside a significant number of Saints fans acceptance of Hammond in midfield ahead of someone with real technique and vision............

You cannot seriously compare Le Tissier being left out for Redknapp/wise/geoff fookin Thomas etc, with Morgan and Hammond FFS (not FPS)

Just because it doesn't suit a lot of people's argument doesn't mean that it's doesn't apply. Or perhaps it's one of those "we can wheel it out when we want to prove something" points of view?!

How can you compare the 2? Ridiculous. He's scored 2 goals in how many years (I like him by the way, and he has improved a lot). Saints are also a winning side. England haven't won feck all since 1966, failed at penalties how many times, and you're talking about a bloke that scored 100 goals (premier league, as well as shit loads more), was an expert penalty taker and the best at free kicks, and was never given a chance. Beckham was another one that wasn't fit to lace Le tiss' boots odd, tsk etc

Simple, England left out one of the best midfielders (if not the best) available to them. Saints are doing the same. It's a very direct comparison.
But apparently it's not ok for England to do it and fine for Saints to do it. Regardless of results.

Adkins is very much a horses for courses bloke it would appear and he seems to think Hammond's brand is more adapted in most cases. This being said, he recently said in an interview that we have one of the most technically gifted midfielders in the leauge (MS) and he can't make the starting XI to prove a point about strength in depth, squad game, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera (à la Yul Brynner).

Cashley doesn't spend much time there apparently, though I believe they are back together now. Cheryl got Hurtmore House in the divorce and they are basically my neighbours... If you head out across the fields at the end of our garden, the next stop is their place. Am yet to pop in for a cup of sugar though.

The man who lived in the Cole's house then was an actor who played in 'Emergency Ward 10' (a very early hospital soap) and now, I believe, is in Emmerdale Farm - Richard Thorp. A very attractive wife, I recall. If you turn left outside their house and walk down the lane you'll come to my old junior school.

So if you stood at your place with a high powered pair of bi-noc-u-lars could you see Cheryl undressing, for example? Just asking like.

But apparently it's not ok for England to do it and fine for Saints to do it. Regardless of results. It's not as "simple" as that though is it? You're comparing a 3rd/2nd tier club Football team, that's been in the best form in the clubs history (ironically the player you're on about was injured for most of the period). We went up, and have since won every game at home for near on a year. And you are comparing the best player (could be argued) of his era that couldn't get in the team ahead of dross like Batty. Results and the comparisons do matter in my opinion. morgan schneiderlin is talented, and has improved, but for a long time he was average. I'm not sure why he's hero worshipped. Cork, Lallana, hammond and to a lesser extent chaplow, could all be classed as "better" players. I get your point, but agree to disagree sir
