Butland has had his moments, but most definitely did lose form, I remember reading a lot of criticism of him when Stoke went down and he was playing in the Championship, here's an example from last August: www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jack-butland-stoke-england-axe-3263363"Jack Butland has paid for his poor early season form by being dropped from the England squad for games against Switzerland and Kosovo next month. Butland, an ever-present for England boss Gareth Southgate when fit, has been at fault for at least four goals conceded by Stoke in their five league matches so far this season." To be fair he hasn't been so prominently mentioned since then so I guess he's recovered somewhat. But I absolutely would not say he'd be a certain starter, and would be more likely to be competition for McCarthy- it's a matter of opinion rather than fact about which of the two is better. For me, while McCarthy has some bad games he also has some good ones and I'm fine with him as first choice. Anyway, anything else exciting happening for us on International Deadline day? I'd have thought the international ones are more likely to be exciting for Saints than domestic.

You and your bizarre love-in with McCarthy! It seems a very sensible idea. We have 3 keepers, one on a huge wage and far too immobile to play sweeper keeper role, one who is really nothing more than a PL backup keeper and a young keeper we paid a fortune for but looks like being a bust but we need to ship of on loan somewhere to see if we can improve him. Butland would be an unquestioned number 1. Has he even had a dip in form? I think he's just been caught up in playing for a team on a downward spiral. The only question would be who should be our no 2? Mccarthy did well yesterday, wouldn't you agree? Very comfortable game mind They had two shots on target. I wouldn't say he looked much different to normal. He still looks very uncertain about coming off his line and a better team than WBA would have made a lot more of the chances his lack of dominance caused.

Agree that pace was always his strongest asset, but if Ralph thinks that he could do a job, who are we to question it?

Has he actually lost his pace? I don't think I've seen him playing for Everton to be honest. He played the equivalent of 14 games last season when you add up his minutes and got 2 goals and 4 assists which actually isn't bad. I think he'd be a decent option.

We need cover in the attacking midfield positions with only Redmond, Armstrong and Djenepo as first team options. I think Walcott strengthens that pack. Would say of the 4 he'd be the 2nd best player on the list (behind Armstrong). Not saying he's anything like the player he was, but a good option for this squad

I'd love to see Theo back, if he's happy I think he still has a lot to offer.

Sky sports are now saying its as good as done, he is having a medical, and we'll only pay half his wages.
