I'm pleased with this. He seems to be a good bloke and an effective manager.
I just hope it works out for him. In some ways I wouldn't wish the England job on my worst enemy.

I'm pleased for Hodgson - and Harry. Hodgson is the right man for England; Harry would have been a disaster, no matter what those wnakers in the media might think.
Harry needs the day to day involvement of club management to keep him interested. Getting his players together for a couple of days 4 or 5 times a year would drive him (more) bonkers.
Best result all round - especially when Chelsea nab the 4th CL spot.

There seem to be quite a few people on here and in the media that are labouring under the misapprehension that Harry actually does much.......

Harry is triffic at talking through his car window. I don't think the FA ever wanted him otherwise why wasn't it done and dusted. The journos are now saying that it's because it would be too expensive so they make the FA look cheapskates instead of making themselves look coonts (which is what they are).

The journos are desperately clawing at any reason why their "insider knowledge" and their self-professed ability to manipulate the situation hasn't come to pass!
People's choice my fecking arse, he was the meejas choice.

good choice, he gets a lot from a little and, as much as we'd like to think otherwise, England have limited world-class resources at the moment.
Let's hope he doesn't get castigated after the Euros... he should at least to get his own chance to qualify for something before they hang him out to dry!?

The meeja and the slightly less educated of the fans (so most of them then!) have us down as potential winners of EVERYTHING. We aren't. We constantly deliver about what we should for a nation of our size and with our resources. Hodgson is as doomed for the England job as he was at Liverpool, because for England he isn't Redknapp and for Liverpool he wasn't Dalgleish. It's a real shame because he is ideal to start creating a national team that is the next step from the whole youth-U20-U21 process.

This is one of those situations where the media are shown to be exactly what they are; money-grabbing whores who want to create the stories themselves so they can insight the public into buying their papers. They did all they could to get Redknapp into the job by telling the public that he was the best man for the job. Failing that, they're now instructing their readership to act furiously against hodgson. No wonder the government are going to town on this country's damaging media industry at the moment.
I read an article that glibly suggested that Resknapp didn't get the job because he didn't share the FA's vision for Burton. Such a short-sighted way of reporting something which probably was a fact. Actually Redknapp probably didn't get the job because he didn't share the FA's vision of building football up from the bottom in this country and to provide genuine continuity from the youth teams all the way up to the first team. Hodgson is infinitely better placed to implement such plans and if that is what the FA want, then they quite rightly overlooked Redknapp. Yet the press choose to turn this into a negative, implying that the FA's priorities are all wrong.

Could Ramon Vega have summed up the national team situation any better? Perhaps some of the media ought to sit down and have a good long look at themselves......... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17893340
